ERGO travel & care app

The following information on data protection applies to the use of the ERGO travel & care app of ERGO Reiseversicherung AG (ERV). In this app you receive the following information:

• General travel and country information for your holiday destination
• Safety warnings for your holiday destination or for when you are at home (optional, including configurable SMS notifications)
• Helpful services relating to medical care in your destination country and, depending on your contract, contact with and onward referral to our medical service providers
• The current status of your contract and services related to your contract
• Additional functions such as a currency converter and document safe

Depending on your insurance contract, you can also share this app with your family members.

You can configure your settings and access permissions for using the app in the app’s privacy cockpit. This app contains links to third parties (external links). The content accessed via these links is subject to the liability of the respective operators. If you notice that any links lead to content that violates applicable law, please notify us via the e‑mail address contact@ergo-reiseversicherung.de. We will then remove these links from our app without delay. The providers assume no guarantee or liability for the timeliness, correctness, completeness or quality of the information provided.

Your rights / options for complaints

Under the EU GDPR you can assert the following rights with the controller:

• Right of access to the data processed (Art. 15)
• Right to rectification of inaccurate data or completion of incomplete data (Art. 16)
• Right to deletion of data that is processed unlawfully or is no longer needed (Art. 17)
• Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18)
• Right to object to processing that the controller bases on the safeguarding of a legitimate interest (Art. 21)
• Right to data portability (Art. 20)

If you have consented to processing (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a or Art. 9 para. 2 lit. a), you have the right to revoke the consent given at any time. Revocation does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out up to that point.

If you wish to lodge a complaint, please contact the Data Protection Officer or the data protection supervisory authority responsible for the controller. Protection of data

ERGO Reiseversicherung uses contemporary technologies to conduct dialogue with you and to secure your data. We take appropriate technical and organisational security precautions, in line with the current state of the art, to protect data against accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorised persons.

Your data stored in the app is stored in encrypted form and is only available in plain text after you log in. Please ensure adequate protection of your mobile device. Protect your data when you are logged into the app and your data is therefore in an unencrypted state, e.g. by using a 6‑digit PIN or, preferably, a fingerprint PIN.

All communication of the app with external servers of ERGO Reiseversicherung or our service providers is encrypted by means of the TLS procedure in its current version (formerly known as “SSL”) and thus protected against spying by unauthorised third parties.

If you send us data outside of the app in unencrypted form as a normal, unsecured e‑mail, there is a possibility that your data may be viewed or altered by unauthorised persons during transmission over the internet.

Purpose of data processing

• Communication with ERGO Reiseversicherung and execution of contract matters
• Providing travel tools and information about destination countries
• Individualised information (e.g. about selected countries and possible recommendations for conduct/danger warnings there)
• Use of assistance services (doctor referral, recommendations for hospitals, breakdown services, etc.)
• Personalised information (insurance cover) and personalised documents of the app user (document safe)

This list contains all data that is used by or through the use of this service.

• When you install, use or access our ERGO travel & care app services, we collect device‑specific information. This includes technical information such as the hardware model, operating system information, browser information, IP address, mobile network information and device identifiers to ensure the operation of the app and for diagnostic purposes as part of problem and error resolution. You can adjust or deactivate the app settings for location transmission, which are used to display location‑specific information, in the privacy settings of the app as needed.
• Anonymous data about the use of the app is collected continuously and evaluated for the purpose of analysing app functions and technical setups. This also includes information about your use of the services we offer in this app, log files, diagnostics, crash, website and performance logs and reports. The use of the analytics tool is a prerequisite for providing and further developing the app’s functions and takes place with your consent to the data protection agreement when you first activate the app. You can withdraw your consent at any time in your app profile.
• As part of the “Safety warnings” service (optional), we additionally process your phone number if you consent to being notified by SMS in case of emergency. You can withdraw your consent to the processing of your phone number and its transfer to our processor Safeture at any time in your app settings and thereby deactivate this function.
• When you activate our medical service Air Doctor via the app (optional, depending on your insurance coverage), we forward your insurance data to our medical service provider Air Doctor as a processor after obtaining your consent to the transfer and mediation. This includes your insurance policy number, information on your current insurance coverage and the names of the insured person(s) you enter for whom you wish to use this service.

The following is the legal basis for the processing of personal data required by Art. 6 I 1 GDPR.

Your data may be transferred to third countries (i.e. outside the EU). Such transfer occurs to the operators of the infrastructures required for running the app (Apple iOS and Google Android) and, where you select the respective app service, to the processor Air Doctor for the worldwide arrangement of medical service providers.

We may make third-party services available to you through our app, subject to their privacy policies and terms of use. If we do, we will obtain your consent to do so when you first use such a service. ERGO Reiseversicherung expressly disclaims any warranty as to the accuracy, validity or completeness of the information or functions available through these services, or as to their quality or consistency.
